Why do people like San Francisco so much?

November 17, 2007 · 1 Comment

Last time when I arrived in San Francisco, waiting in the airport for my luggage, I was thinking how many times did I hit the ground here, in bad and good times. The City still fascinates me after all these years, The first visit dates from 1986.

A free flight ticket brought me to Los Angeles in 1986, and while there we took the car to visit San Francisco. This would be a first visit of many!

I always wonder why people are so crazy about San Francisco, including myself. I guess it is the open minded atmosphere, ‘everything is possible’ feeling. Where East meets West, The Golden Gate strait between San Francisco Bay area to the Pacific ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge spanning the San Francisco Bay Area with Marin County, since 1937.

The city has a long history as a multicultural environment. With the gold rush, a lot of immigrants came searching for their luck and fortune. And Silicon Valley still attracts a lot of foreigners, geniuses, cowboys and entrepreneurs who also search their fortune in the high technology field.

Visiting San Francisco is a joy for the mind and the eyes.

I was born and raised in San Francisco. I moved away ten years ago to marry a woman who lived in rural Indiana. That’s where I make my home now.

Not a day goes by that I don’t miss The City. I don’t mean my family or my friends – I do miss them – but I mean that I miss The City itself.

I miss the freedom, the food, the weather, the fog, the ocean, the hills, the mishmash of cultures – I miss everything about it.

I adore my wife and my home is with her. If she wanted to live in an igloo, that’s where I’d live. But part of me still lives in an apartment on Nob Hill.
